Use Your Body to Calm Down

This is a new chapter in the book, and it focusses on calming the body in distress using TIP Skills.

“These skills are “biohacks” of a sort; they use the mind-body connection to reduce emotional distress by reducing physiological arousal. By directly impacting your body chemistry and the autonomic nervous system, they are some of the most effective and fast-acting Distress Tolerance skills, once you get the hang of them. They’re useful to throw into your STOP practices and crisis Cope Ahead plans.”

TIP stands for –

Temperature

Intense breathing

Paced breathing

Paired muscle relaxation

These TIP Skills are best explained as part of an exercise. So we’ll be looking at Tip Your Temperature next.
