A brief look at the last two exercises in this section
Here I’m going to do a bit of skipping over as I‘m keen to get on to the next section. But even though I’m not going to write at length on these Positive Emotions/Mastery exercises, I will still be paying attention to the suggestions in them. I like to think of this book as a coffee machine percolating away in the background, or a fridge humming. Since I started this workbook, I’ve thought of DBT principles every day in one form or another. And I’m always on the lookout for meaningful ways to apply them.
The last two exercises in the Build Emotional Resilience section are –
Identify Opportunities to Build Mastery
and
Schedule for Accumulating Positive Emotions and Building Mastery
In summary, the first exercise gets you to list and keep an eye out for, “challenging but achievable” chances to build mastery.
And the second exercise is all about making a daily list if you can, covering –
Pleasant activities
Steps towards goals
Mastery activities
and then adding in notes where needed.
I’ve done a bit of considering, and I reckon I already do both of these exercises informally. So now it’s on to the next section - Distress Tolerance.
